Pete Alonso Passes David Wright on Mets’ Home Run List

The sizzling first baseman had already homered once to tie David Wright with 242 homers as he approached the plate in the eighth inning at Coors Field.

Two pitches later he was ahead of Wright, with only Darryl Strawberry remaining ahead of him.

“I don’t think that is really going to settle in because we’re still in the middle of the season,” Alonso said after the Mets finished a three-game series sweep with a 13-5 demolition of the Rockies. “Right now, it’s just focus on winning.”

Alonso and Jeff McNeil each blasted two homers on a day the Mets totaled six.

Juan Soto reached base six times, becoming the first Mets player to accomplish that feat in a game since Alonso in 2019.

Alonso was a beast on the seven-game road trip, delivering five home runs and 15 RBIs.

    NFL Approves Some Rule Changes

The NFL’s owners approved plans to expand replay assist and revisit overtime rules, while also opting to stick with the newly implemented kickoff rules, during the NFL League Meetings in Florida.

Regular-season overtime rules will now match the playoffs, allowing both teams the chance to get a possession even if a touchdown is scored on the opening drive. Additionally, overtime was amended to be 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes in play time.

The owners also approved a proposal to allow replay assist to consult on-field officials to overrule objective calls if there was “clear and obvious” evidence that a foul didn’t occur. Additionally, the league will continue to utilize the dynamic kickoff rule, which was implemented last season, while moving the ball on spot on touchbacks from the 30-yard line to the 35-yard line.

Palou passed Marcus Ericsson entering Turn 1 with 14 laps to go and held off Ericsson, David Malukas and Pato O’Ward the rest of the way. Ericsson lifted into the corner behind two lapped cars when Palou passed him and left a gap for the three-time IndyCar champion.

The victory is Palou’s fifth in six races in 2025 and the Barcelona native is the first Spanish driver to win the Indy 500. After winning  the 2023 and 2024 IndyCar titles, Palou is even better in 2025. The only race of the season he didn’t win was the Long Beach Grand Prix. And Palou was second to Kyle Kirkwood in that event.

After getting out of his car on the front-stretch after the checkered  flag, Palou ran down the track and celebrated with his crew and his father Ramon.
