The New York Knicks are out for domination. For the second year in a row, Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals. 

They proved that the Larry O’Brien trophy is merely the reward but the goal was to overpower their opponents. It showed in their 144-114 demolition of the Philadelphia 76ers which led to an insane 4-0 sweep. They even notched a historic net rating feat.

Game 4 between the Knicks and 76ers was over during the middle of the first quarter. Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns saw their squad take over with a massive 19-point lead before the second quarter started. For most teams, it would all be a matter of closing out but the Knicks are different. They continued to steamroll Joel Embiid and Co.

By the end of their 144-114 domination, the Knicks secured a 20.3 net rating in the NBA Playoffs. This is the best net rating by a team in a single postseason run. They are also the sole owners of the record.

Denny’s, the breakfast chain known for classic diner food and its Grand Slam Breakfast, is going private in a $620 million deal orchestrated by a group of investors.

The deal values the chain at $620 million, including debt. The investors purchasing the company are private equity investment company TriArtisan Capital Advisors, investment firm Treville Capital and Denny’s franchisee Yadav Enterprises.

Under the agreement, Denny’s shareholders will receive $6.25 per share in cash for each share of Denny’s common stock they own, or a total of $322 million. That represents a 52% premium to Denny’s closing stock price on Monday. 

Founded in 1953 as Danny’s Donuts, the company changed its name to Denny’s in 1959 to avoid confusion with another chain, and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange a decade later. During the past two years, Denny’s has struggled to boost sales as consumers shifted toward a reliance on delivery through apps.

The 2026 New York Mets hit another low over the weekend. They got swept by the last-place Colorado Rockies in Queens, by scores of 4-3, 3-1 and 3-0. 

The Mets are 9-19 and tied with the Phillies for the worst record in baseball.

Meanwhile, the Mets’ offense, which was missing Juan Soto and now is missing Francisco Lindor, has been slumping to a shocking degree. 

The Mets finally ended their 12-game losing streak but looked terrible at home over the weekend against Colorado.

How secure is manager Carlos Mendoza’s job? 

Long shot Golden Tempo made a stretch run for the ages, coming from dead last to win the 152nd Run for the Roses. In the process, Cherie DeVaux became the first female trainer ever to win the Kentucky Derby.

In a Derby without a strong favorite, most of the public’s attention was on Arkansas Derby winner Renegade, Florida Derby winner Commandment, Santa Anita Derby winner So Happy and Bill Mott trainee Chief Wallabee.

But it was Golden Tempo, trained by DeVaux and ridden by Jose Ortiz, who went off at 23-1 and found itself in last place entering the final turns only to sweep past a tight pack in the stretch run to win by a nose over favorite Renegade. Ocelli, a 70-1 longshot, showed. The winning time was 2:02.27.

The payouts were significant:

• Ocelli (70-1): $36.34
• $2 exacta: $278.86

The stretch run from Golden Tempo was, in a few words, impossible to believe. As the pack entered the final turns, Golden Tempo wasn’t in view of the leaders. As the pack entered the stretch, the 3-year-old had moved up to 13th in the 18-horse race, but still seemingly out of contention. But Ortiz drove through traffic deftly, then found a lane on the outside straight to victory, edging out Renegade at the wire.

Fernando Mendoza has had a remarkable last 12 months and the 22-year-old added another milestone on Thursday to his constantly growing resume: Becoming the top selection in the NFL draft.

The Las Vegas Raiders selected the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback with the first overall pick.

The 22-year-old, who was watching the draft in Coral Gables, Florida, along with his family, was emotional as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced the selection.

In the last five months, Mendoza led the Indiana Hoosiers to their first national championship in program history, a perfect 16-0 record, to the university’s first Big Ten football title since 1967. He was also named the Associated Press Player of the Year.

“I’m just look forward to getting to work,” Mendoza told ESPN. “College was fantastic. I am so blessed to have that career but now I step into a great game, the NFL.” 

The Kansas City Royals are moving in fences at Kauffman Stadium in an effort to make it a more hitter-friendly ballpark.

Both the left- and right-field walls will be moved in nine to 10 feet, beginning close to the foul poles and tapering toward center field, which will stay at 410 feet from home plate, while the wall height will be lowered from 10 feet to 8 1/2 feet in most places. 

A team-provided diagram showed the left- and right-field corners at 347 and 344 feet, respectively, nine feet shorter than their current dimensions. The left and right field walls will also be nine feet closer at 364 feet.

Kauffman Stadium is already considered to be an above-average offensive park because of its massive outfield, which promotes doubles and triples, but has suppressed home runs, which has led to hitters changing their approaches in road games. The Royals had previously moved their fences in 10 feet between 1995 and 2003, which saw a spike in home run totals, before returning to their original dimensions in 2004.

Texas and Florida have once again topped the U-Haul “Growth Index” as the most popular destinations for people moving within the United States. According to U-Haul’s analysis of over 2.5 million one-way transactions across the U.S. and Canada, Texas ranks first in in-migration, followed by Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

The report highlights a continued trend of migration from “blue” states to “red” states, a pattern that has gained attention since the 2020 pandemic. Seven of the top 10 growth states have Republican governors, and nine went red in the last presidential election. Conversely, nine of the bottom 10 states have Democrat governors, with seven going blue in the last election.

U-Haul’s data also suggests that sunshine and warm weather are key factors for movers, as eight of the top 10 states are located in the southern U.S. Texas, in particular, has reclaimed the title of the No. 1 U-Haul growth state for the seventh time in 10 years, climbing one spot from its previous ranking.

On the other hand, the states experiencing the highest out-migration include California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts.  

The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t have an answer yet from Aaron Rodgers on what his plans are for the 2026 season, but their new coach is well aware of the kind of story it would be.

And Mike McCarthy, who coached Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018, is all for a reunion story.

“Yes, it’d be a great story,” McCarthy.

Kevin Harlan asked the first-year Steelers coach about a possible reunion with Rodgers. 

“I would love to tell everybody there is breaking news,” McCarthy said. “It’s really cool to see Aaron at 42 and all that he’s been able to accomplish.”

Last season was Rodgers’ first with the Steelers, and he helped them to the AFC North title. Shortly after the season, coach Mike Tomlin stepped down and was replaced by McCarthy.

The New York Yankees fell to the Athletics by a score of 1-0 on Thursday afternoon, managing just one hit in the loss. Their scoreless streak has now reached 17 innings, and while the Yankees are 8-4, there is every reason to be concerned.

Why? Because many of the same issues that plagued New York last season — which ended in an embarrassing four-game loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS — are present this year, as well.

The bullpen has been a prominent concern, with David Bednar consistently walking a tightrope in the ninth inning and Camilo Doval owning an 8.31 ERA.

But that isn’t even the most significant problem affecting the Yankees right now.

While Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice are both off to terrific starts and Aaron Judge will almost certainly find his groove at some point, it’s time to start acknowledging that the latter half of New York’s lineup is troublesome.

That goes beyond Ryan McMahon, who is batting just .069 over 36 plate appearances.

Austin Wells is hitting .167 with a .486 OPS. Jose Caballero is slashing .135/.200/.162. And while Trent Grisham bats leadoff, his .597 OPS is unsightly, too.
