NFL Coaches on the Hot Seat

This season, there will be seven new head coaches. That means seven head coaches were replaced since the start of last season.

Last year, there were eight new NFL head coaches. It was five the year before that, and a stunning 10 in 2022.
In other words, it’s inevitable that some of the head coaches at the start of this season will be replaced by the start of the 2026 season. That’s the nature of an impatient league. Here are the seven coaches on the hot seat this season.
Brian Daboll, New York Giants
Brian Callahan, Titans
Zac Taylor, Bengals
Shane Steichen, Colts
Kevin Stefanski, Browns
Mike McDaniel, Dolphins
Dave Canales, Panthers

Aaron Rodgers and Steelers Beat Jets

There’s a lot of time left in the 2025 NFL season, but the Pittsburgh Steelers’ decision to sign Aaron Rodgers might just pay off. Rodgers led the Steelers to a touchdown on his first drive with the team, ending a drought that dated to 2023.

That momentum carried through to the rest of the contest, as Rodgers threw four touchdowns in a fantastic 34-32 win in his Steelers debut against the New York Jets on Sunday.

The Steelers trailed most of the way before scoring two touchdowns in less than a minute early in the fourth quarter. The Jets briefly re-gained the lead before an 11-yard completion from Rodgers to DK Metcalf helped set up Chris Boswell’s game-winning field goal.

Rodgers finished the game with 244 yards on 22 of 30 passing. In a nice effort, Jets QB Fields threw for 218 yards and a touchdown against his former team. He also ran for two touchdowns on the ground.

Commanders Silence Giants, 21-6

Russell Wilson was handed the Giants’ starting quarterback job this summer, but he might not keep it long into the fall.
Wilson and the Giants’ offense struggled today in a season-opening 21-6 loss to the Commanders.

Giants first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart is currently Wilson’s backup, but Dart looked good enough in the preseason that many fans will want him to start, especially after Wilson could generate only two field goals today.
Wilson averaged just 4.5 yards per pass and a 45.9 percent completion rate, completing 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards. He was the Giants’ leading rusher with 44 yards on eight carries. The Giants need more passing and less rushing from Wilson.
Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels went 19-for-30 for 233 yards with a touchdown, and running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt had a strong debut with 10 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown. Deebo Samuel was the Commanders’ leading receiver with seven catches for 77 yards.

Mets Bash Six Homers in Braves Rout

The Mets smashed six more home runs on Saturday and Clay Holmes pitched six innings for the first time in more than two months as New York defeated the Braves, 9-2, in Atlanta.
New York has hit 29 home runs in their last 11 games, including Saturday. Four Mets pitchers held the Braves to two runs on just five hits.

- Jeff McNeil got the party started with a three-run shot, and the Mets went on to hit six homers to take a second straight game from Atlanta
- Starling Marte turned in a vintage performance with three hits, two stolen bases, a laser beam throw for a putout at the plate
- Top pitching prospect Jonah Tong was excellent again for Syracuse, and he is reportedly in the conversation to join the big-league roster this year
- Frankie Montas’ disappointing debut season with the Mets is over, as the veteran has a “pretty significant” UCL injury and could need Tommy John surgery
- With Montas out for the year, Huascar Brazoban has been recalled to give the Mets another bullpen arm

Wacky Headlines at Vintage Weekly World News

There was a time when wild headlines appeared on the pages of the Weekly World News instead of your Facebook feed. Now it’s called clickbait. 25 years ago, a headline about a Mongolian that wanted to destroy Hulk Hogan was just a headline. And you got like 250 wild headlines per issue to entertain you while you passed time switching from ‘A’ and ‘B’ on your cable box. Now you have a Facebook feed full of political clickbait that isn’t even funny. At least the WWN headline writers were brilliant with their clickbait.
The Weekly World News stopped printing in 2007. Weekly sales in 2006 were down to just 83,000 issues. Facebook opened to anyone with a valid email address on September 26, 2006. WWN was becoming a dinosaur. There was a new home for wild clickbait headlines. The WWN site still exists and there’s new content published when someone gets around to it. weeklyworldnews.com

Yankee Manager Aaron Boone Tries to Fire Up the Team, But They Lose to Astros

Perhaps New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was trying to fire up his team that had lost six of its past eight games. Maybe he was showing frustration over alternating pitching and hitting struggles as the Yankees slide further down the AL East standings.
Whatever the reason, Boone gave himself an early exit from Sunday’s 7-1 defeat to the Houston Astros by getting ejected in the third inning. It was his fifth ejection of the season, leading all MLB managers.

Boone began arguing with home plate umpire Derek Thomas after he called a low sinker to Ryan McMahon a strike. Judging from strike-zone graphics, the pitch was borderline but was out of the zone.
Apparently, that was one low strike too many for Boone’s liking and he shouted at Thomas from the dugout. Thomas called timeout and warned Boone, saying, “that’s enough” before tossing him from the game.

Yankees’ Aaron Judge On All-Time Home Run Pace

Aaron Judge just keeps hitting home runs.
He homered on Wednesday night in Toronto, giving him 37 for the season and 352 for his career.
After being the fastest player in MLB history to reach 350 home runs, Judge keeps climbing the all-time leaderboard.

He has now officially broken into the top-100 in MLB history. He’s tied for 99th with the 352 HRs, a total also reached by Ryan Braun and Ellis Burks.
Judge is closing in on a couple of Yankees very soon, too.
Yogi Berra hit 358 career homers. Joe DiMaggio had 361.
Judge broke into the majors late, so although his at bat pace has him faster than anyone in MLB history, it’s unlikely he can climb to the very top of the all-time leaderboard. Or is it?
