Jayhawks Complete Historic Comeback To Win NCAA Championship

Kansas made March Madness history with a 72-69 victory over UNC in the 2022 NCAA Tournament championship game.

The Jayhawks overcame a 16-point deficit (and 15-point halftime deficit) to claim Kansas’ fourth national championship, and second under Bill Self. In so doing, they also registered one of the largest comebacks in NCAA Tournament history.

The game was marked by huge scoring runs by both teams. UNC took its massive lead in the first half with an 18-7 run, at one point going up 38-22, the largest lead of either team all night. The Tar Heels ultimately took a 40-25 lead into halftime.

But Kansas stormed back in the second half, punctuated by a 12-1 run out of halftime. The Jayhawks ultimately outscored UNC 47-29 in the second half to take the victory.

More Automation Coming to Whole Foods

Amazon-owned Whole Foods has rolled out its cashier-less technology in Washington, DC.

The store announced that shoppers at the Whole Foods location in the Glover Park section of the capital would no longer need to interact with anyone at a cash register when paying for their groceries.

The company unveiled its Just Walk Out technology, which was first announced in the fall of last year, at the 21,500-square-foot location — the first of two that will be outfitted with automated cash registers.

A similar initiative is being planned for a Whole Foods in the Sherman Oaks section of Los Angeles.

Just Walk Out works by having shoppers scan their payment method of choice when walking into the store. It could be a credit card; the Amazon One payment system, which lets shoppers hover their palms over a scanner to identify themselves; or the Amazon and Whole Foods apps.

Instead of a bagger scanning each item taken, cameras and sensors track what shoppers choose and automatically charge them.

Chris Jericho Picks His Mt. Rushmore of Wrestling

While it’s always up for debate who wrestling fans believe is the greatest of all time, some wrestlers deserve to be there. On his Saturday Night Special Live via Facebook and YouTube, Chris Jericho revealed his personal Mt. Rushmore after a viewer asked the question.

Jericho seemed hard-pressed to name four people as he said that people like Owen Hart and Ricky Steamboat were personal influences of his. He was unsure if The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin should be on his own Mt. Rushmore of Wrestling. But the top three were Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, and Hulk Hogan. On the fourth, he was perplexed and said:

“All right, you want it, you got it. Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Último Dragón (Yoshihiro Asai). One of the greatest wrestlers I have ever seen in my life. One of the greatest performers I ever worked with. That’s my four. Deal with it.”

Jericho picked a list that he was personally influenced by, and there seemed to be a method to the madness. But as he said, these choices are always hard to get right.

  • Kia to Recall Some Cars Due to Airbag Issues

Kia to Recall Some Cars Due to Airbag Issues

Kia announced it is recalling over 410,00 vehicles in the United States because of an issue that may result in the airbags failing to inflate in a crash. The recall includes certain 2017-2019 Sedona, Soul, Soul EV, and Forte vehicles.

“The Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated airbags that will not deploy in a crash,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explained.

Kia said it has received 13 customer complaints and 947 warranty claims due to the issue since July. The car company noted there have been no reports of accidents or injuries due to the problem.

Owners will be notified by mail and will be able to bring their vehicle to a dealership where technicians will either update the software or replace the control unit.

NFL Running Back Ricky Williams Launches Cannabis Brand

Ricky Williams is known mostly for two things — his abilities on the football field and love for marijuana. The former NFL star has found a way to market himself using both.

Williams recently launched a cannabis brand called “Highsman.” The brand includes cannabis products, apparel and a line of accessories. There are three different strains of marijuana called Pregame, Halftime and Postgame.

“It is time we change the way we talk about cannabis,” Williams said. “Highsman is about an appreciation for greatness. There is a passionate and dedicated team behind the brand, and together we want to help all people inspire greatness in themselves.”

Williams won the Heisman Trophy at Texas and led the NFL in rushing with 1,853 yards in 2002. He was suspended five times and missed two full seasons during his NFL career due to positive drug tests. The league has since softened its stance on marijuana use.

Major League Baseball and Players Association Reach Agreement

Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association reached a new  collective bargaining agreement, finally halting a 99-day owner-imposed lockout fraught with rampant tension and colored by heightened mistrust.

The season will begin on April 7.

Twenty-six of the 38 union leaders voted in favor of a five-year CBA that saw its members make significant gains with regard to minimum salaries and the competitive balance tax threshold, among other areas. The 30 team owners ratified the deal by a unanimous vote, according to the league, finalizing a CBA that provided them with an expanded postseason field and the ability to place advertisements on uniforms.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, the face of pointed criticism from players throughout the process, said he “could not be more excited about the future of our game” and vowed to work more closely with MLBPA executive director Tony Clark with hopes of bridging a noticeable gap.

NFL Network reported that the 38-year-old Rodgers had agreed to a four-year, $200 million contract that includes $153 million in guaranteed money.

Rodgers’ decision comes a month after he won his second straight MVP award. The four-time MVP quarterback has spent his entire career in Green Bay.
